We had some friends in this past Saturday at Thomas Sweet, Montgomery. Bob Krause, who came with his wife Jan, was kind enough to write this very nice “biased” review
SPRING HILL BAND REVIEW (a completely unofficial and biased review)
On March 4 2017 from 7 to 10pm the Spring Hill Band performed at the “venerable music venue” Thomas Sweet Cafe in Montgomery, NJ.
The list of songs included rock and folk rock classics by The Byrds, The Beatles, Dylan, CSN, James Taylor, Steely Dan and others that were finely honed selections to fit the temperament and talent of the band. The band also played at least two originals. A heart felt song by Carl and another that featured Mike O’Malley on a sweet Gibson hollow body electric guitar. The band that evening consisted of five musicians. At times different members were the lead singers but the harmonies of others were showcased on many songs like CSN’s Suite: Judy Blues Eyes. To end the evening we were treated to an impromptu audience elder’s dance performance of the reincarnation of Duane Allman as he was on his way out during the final song, Elmore James and Marshall Sehorn’s “One Way Out”.
It was good to hear folks these days farming their music “simply for the love of it.”
This is once again a completely unofficial and biased review. I am an art and music lover but not a musician. My art is architecture and photography. I graduated high school with Carl and this is the music on which we thankfully grew up. The audience included another high school alumnus Bob Rich, his wife, son, members of the Bransfield family and my wife. I would encourage many more of our classmates to come out to other installments of a Spring Hill feel good evening. By the way Thomas Sweet has a friendly vibe, the coffee is very good and it seems the ice cream is a hit based upon the crowd.
Thanks for the evening
